Case Study: End-of-Line Camera-Based Tester for Mechanical Fittings

In high-volume manufacturing, visual defects on mechanical fittings can lead to functional failures in the field. Relying solely on manual human inspection at the end of a production line often leaves dangerous gaps in quality control.

Camera-based end-of-line automated production quality tester evaluating mechanical fittings with pass/fail feedback on a manufacturing line.

The Challenge

A manufacturing client recognized that their final inspection process was insufficient for their production volume. They requested RLA Engineering to design a robust end-of-line production quality tester specifically for their mechanical fittings. The goal was to fully automate defect detection prior to the goods leaving the facility.

The Engineering Solution

To replace subjective manual inspections with objective data, we implemented advanced machine vision. RLA Engineering successfully designed a camera-based tester integrated with automated final PASS/FAIL feedback mechanisms. The system was engineered to rapidly scan the mechanical fittings on the line and immediately flag components that did not meet strict visual and dimensional tolerances.
