Case Study: Automated Biological Sample Handling for Benchtop Virus Testers

In the life sciences and medical technology sectors, limiting human interaction with hazardous biological samples is critical for both safety and testing accuracy. A technology client partnered with RLA Engineering to upgrade the functionality of a vital diagnostic device.

Automated biological sample handling subsystems designed for virus testers to eliminate manual material handling.

The Challenge

The client's primary objective was to increase automated handling within an existing benchtop virus tester. The legacy process required too much human intervention, creating potential bottlenecks and safety concerns that needed to be engineered out of the workflow.

The Engineering Solution

To solve this, RLA Engineering focused on deep electromechanical integration. We designed various mechanical parts and complex sub-systems specifically engineered to enable the fully automated handling of biological samples. This required precision engineering to ensure the delicate samples were moved smoothly and accurately without risking contamination or damage to the testing environment.
